A Week in the Life of a Music Student (Part 1)

Feb 21, 2022

Every day is filled with music!

Music College Life! (I don't know what I'll do after graduation)

In the popular classical music manga "Nodame Cantabile,
the daily life of a music college student is depicted in a realistic manner.

So, what is the daily life of a real life music student?

This time, based on the experience of the author, who once attended a music college,
I would like to report on the real life of music college students based on my own experience as a former music college student.

An example of a music student A...

◆Mondays.

Freshmen and sophomores may have classes at 1st period = 9:00 AM.
One music student A, as is often the case with the average college student,
In his first year, he failed a credit due to sleeping in.

In my second year, however, I took a cab to school and stopped being late.
This is a celebrity financial sense peculiar to music college students.

In the afternoon, there are language classes.
Students who are allergic to English mainly choose German, French, and other languages.
However, they failed because German and French are unexpectedly difficult,
However, there are a certain number of students who fail and retake English in their third year.

◆Tuesdays

At most music schools, private lessons for major practical skills are given once a week.
In the case of music student A, the professor's lessons are given on Tuesday afternoons.

Since I don't practice enough, I take a break from my general education classes to practice.
(And then I'll drop the credits...)

◆Wednesday.

Many music schools have orchestra classes once a week.
At music student A's school, it is on Wednesdays.
Many students come without practicing for the first time,
The conductor in charge is always unpleasant.

However, many private universities put a lot of effort into their orchestra classes.
This is because the student orchestra serves as promotion and publicity for the school.

◆Thursdays.

At music student A's school, teaching classes are held on Thursdays.
For private universities, teaching classes are optional because they are optional,
It can cost more than 100,000 yen per year.
However, when you feel tired, you can take a break.
(And more than 100,000 yen a year goes down the drain...)

It is quite unfilial.

Also, there will be a sub-course piano lesson on this day.
The secondary piano lesson is about 20 to 30 minutes at any music college.

Generally speaking, most other than piano majors, composition majors, and so on rarely practice.
Then, young part-time instructors have to deal with unmotivated students.
(Some students are motivated.)

To be continued in the second part (^^)/
