Oct 28, 2024

Hello viola players! And to those brave souls who are thinking of becoming viola players (lol)! In this issue, I have listed a few "ah-ha" moments that are unique to viola players. If you can relate to any of them, please exclaim in your heart, "Yes! Please shout "Aru!

1. c clef master

What symbol is that?" you often ask. Yes, we are experts in the C clef. For those who can read it, it's not a special skill, but for those who can't, it's a complete mystery; play the viola every day for a week or a month and you'll learn to read it.

2. "What's a viola?"

When I play the viola, people ask, "Is that a big violin?" or "Is that a smaller version of the cello? or "Is that a small version of a cello? I am often asked, "Is that a big violin? Each time I explain, my love for the viola deepens.

3. a magician of tones

The viola's tone adds a distinctive warmth and depth to the orchestra.
When mixed with clarinets and horns, the sound becomes fuller.
It takes a lot of effort and practice to produce that magical tone, but it is well worth it.

4. solo music, where?

There are countless violin and cello solo pieces to choose from, but when it comes to finding viola solo pieces, it is a bit of a treasure hunt. But the joy of finding a hidden masterpiece is unmatched.
<Famous composers' viola solo pieces
Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, Bartok, Shostakovich, etc.

5. the orchestra's hidden heroes

The viola often goes unnoticed in an orchestra, but without us the music would not be complete. (The cello is too massive to take on the viola's role.)
The viola player is the true hidden hero.

Viola players, can you relate to any of these "ah-ha's"? Remember, you have friends with whom you can share the unique joys and challenges of being a viola player. And let's continue to share the beautiful sound of the viola with the world!
