Apr 5, 2024
Hello to all drummers out there! Playing music is a wonderful experience, but it can take a toll on many parts of the body, especially when playing the drums. Today, I'd like to share with you some concise and easy-to-follow stretching and body care tips for drummers. By adopting these habits, you can reduce your risk of injury while playing and enjoy your music for the long term.
Importance of Stretching
When playing drums, you actively use your hands, arms, shoulders, back, and even your feet. Flexibility and strength are needed in these areas. Stretching on a daily basis will keep your muscles flexible and prevent injuries while playing.
Basic stretching methods
Wrist and arm stretches: Stretch the hand forward and gently pull the fingertips downward. Do the reverse and gently press and stretch the back of the hand.
Shoulder stretch: Stretch one arm out to the side in front of the body and gently pull the arm in with the other hand. Do the same on the opposite side.
Back stretch: In a seated position, bend forward and stretch your hands toward your feet.
Leg Stretch: Stretch the legs forward, turning the ankles and pulling and stretching the toes.
Body Care
Play in a warm environment: Play in a warm environment whenever possible, as cold environments can cause muscle tension.
Maintain proper posture: Maintaining proper posture in front of the drum set reduces stress on the shoulders and back.
Take breaks: Take regular breaks during long practice sessions or performances to allow your body to relax.
Stay hydrated: Adequate hydration is important to maintain muscle function.
Stretching and taking care of your body on a daily basis will help you play the drums longer and with more enjoyment. Enjoy the music!
